This past season was a wonderful one for my Hydrangeas. The colors ranged from the creamy whites to pinks to purples to the brightest of blues. As the season waned down, so did the clarity of the colors. Even with the changes, I find it interesting to revisit the slow progression of color hue changes. This is one of the Hydrangeas in full bloom at the height of its color.
Last year I had cut many of the beautiful large blooms to bring in to dry, but decided to let them all stay this season. I found them to add great color inside until they faded and then fell apart all over the place!!
Even when starting to lose their color, they change to very interesting combinations.
I love how the ones which had been intense blue turn to pink on the edges.
And look how intense this pink becomes as it takes over the full bloom.
And at the very end of the season, when the frost has hit all with a slam bang, when it appears as if all the color has been removed from each bloom,
a trace of the previous beauty can still be found lingering for one last hurrah, before the final cold hits for the winter.
