Berry eating

Can always tell when my friends the raccoons are around. As they are nocturnal, they are never seen, but they always leave me little bits of evidence of their nightly presence. It is always towards the end of the season that I begin to see their little tokens of tasty treats. Mostly they can be found poolside. This is a typical morsel left behind after a ripe berry has been washed in the pool water and eaten, leaving behind the seeds and berry juice all over the pool deck and edges!!

This year I happened to notice a seed in the bird bath.

Please forgive the dirty water, but had to show you that someone even got into it to wash their snack! These are probably some kind of Cherry or Dogwood tree as they are growing throughout the woods here.

So what do think? You know how raccoons have that mask. I imagine them waiting until all the lights go out in the house, then parading out together, as they do travel in families. Then I would think they would climb over the pool gate, make their way up the steps, maybe enjoy a little late night skinny dipping, have their snacks and retreat back into the woods for the night to explore the neighbors bounty!
